"A CUP OF WELCOME"

Pastor Ron Zielske

Introduction to the scriptures for July 2nd

The mystery of God’s ways is sometimes hidden from the wise and intelligent. Jesus associates with the lowly and outcast. Like Paul, we struggle with our own selfish desires and seek God’s mercy and forgiveness. We gather to be refreshed by Christ’s invitation: “Come to me, all you that are weary.” Gathered around word, water, and meal, we find rest for our souls.

Readings and Psalm

Zechariah 9:9-12      The king will come in humility and peace

Psalm 145:8-14        The Lord is gracious and full of compassion.

Romans 7:15-25a     The struggle within the self

Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30      The yoke of discipleship

Building Update

New colored building elevations (drawings of the outside) are in the back of the church.  You can see the dormers that were added and what the building may look like.
We may have to add some vertical stone features to break up the walls a little.  There is a sample of the stone for the exterior at the back of the churchWe hope to have the Building Permit soon.
Please pray for all the people involved in helping us build our new church home. Please pray for all the people involved in helping us build our new church home.

Good Shepherd Clothing Drive

Super Successful Reformation 500 Clothing Drive!!

Thank you everyone who brought clothes for Good Shepherd's Clothing Closet! We have 30 bags of clothes which is an enormous amount. This will really help low income people in the Truckee Meadows meet their clothing needs. Lord of Mercy has really followed Jesus's directive to clothe the naked.
The four ELCA churches in the area want to collect 500 pairs of socks and/or underwear by October 31, 2017 for Good Shepherd's Clothing Closet to celebrate Reformation 500. If each church gives 125 pairs, we will reach 500.  Lord of Mercy members have already donated 88 pairs of socks and/or underwear in June so we are almost halfway there.  We will do a sock and underwear drive in September as we usually do to get to 125.

Q. Where did Luther nail the 95 theses to the church door?  Why did Luther nail the 95 theses to the church door?
A. Wittenberg, Germany.  They did not have internet in those days so the church door acted like a bulletin board to post things for people's attention.

Reformation Question of the Week
