WELCOME TO LORD OF MERCY

The Christian Church celebrates God’s good news for us.

That good news (which is what "Gospel" means) is that humanity’s broken relationship with God has been restored through Jesus Christ. That restoration is God’s gift. We live trusting in God’s promised restoration. St. Paul calls us a "new creation." As that new creation we are called to a life of faithful and joyful response.

That response includes a life of purpose, and of good works. Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matthew, chapters 5-7) turns the world’s values upside down. We are challenged to forgive as we have been forgiven, to return hate with love, to "let our light shine" so that people can give glory to our Father.

Although Christians are called to be "moral" people, the purpose of church is not simply to make good, upstanding citizens. The purpose of our life and worship together is to experience the growing rule of God in our lives—anticipating a world of God’s justice and compassion.

In the difficult times of life there is support and effective prayer. In the joyful times of life there is celebration and thanksgiving. As we struggle with the dilemmas of life there is mutual support, learning, and the promise of God.

All of that—and much, much more—happens at Lord of Mercy Lutheran Church. As the Psalmist says, "Come, taste and see that the Lord is good!"
