WHO ARE LUTHERANS?
- Part of the larger Christian family
- The largest Protestant church in the world
- Founder Martin Luther began the Reformation of the Western Church in 1517
- Lutherans were the first to be called "Protestants" (1529)
|
IN COMMON WITH OTHER CHRISTIANS, |
-
Lutherans believe there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God of us all
- We affirm the three early ecumenical creeds of the Church
- We have a rich tradition of worship and praise
- We care for the needs of people
- We have a fervent expectation that Gods rule of justice and
compassion, now among us in part, will one day find its completion
WHAT MAKES LUTHERANS UNIQUE?
- Lutherans emphasize that God has restored our relationship to him
by Gods free gift, through Christand we accept this good news in trust and
faith
- We acknowledge that Scripture alone is the authority for faith and
life
- Good works and ethical action are the fruit of our new
relationship to God
- We value historic expressions of worshipsome of which go
back to Jesus himselfwhile we seek to keep our worship fresh and relevant for today
- We believe that as a Reformation church we have a special
obligation to cooperate with other Christians to seek the unity of the family of God
